A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MISS CHRISTY FAIRLEY ON HER PERFORMANCE AT THE NIKE INDOOR MEET.

WHEREAS, Miss Christy Fairley, one of three Mississippians competing in the Nike Indoor Classic at Columbus, Ohio, placed second in the girls 400-meter in the prestigious event; and

WHEREAS, last summer, Miss Fairley took second place in the Junior Olympic Championship Meet in Seattle, Washington, which automatically named her to the World Youth Championship Team that will travel overseas; and

WHEREAS, Miss Fairley, a sophomore at George County High School, will be part of a 60-man team that will travel to Poland in July 1999, to compete against the world's best athletes; and

WHEREAS, Miss Fairley has led the George County Lady Rebels to two straight Class 4A State Championships by sweeping the 100, 200 and 400 races as a freshman and eighth grader; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her contributions to the team, Miss Fairley was named The Clarion-Ledger Girls Track Athlete of the Year in 1998 and was selected as an All-American; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Christy Fairley on her performance in the Nike Indoor Classic Meet and for displaying tireless devotion to all her athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Christy Fairley and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
